Introduction
The CGLA 6 th grade All-Star Program is in its tenth year and has established itself as a wonderful CGLA tradition. The purposes are:
- To recognize those athletes who are raising the level of the game.
- To give girls the opportunity to practice and play with other girls of equal ability and to have fun.
- To introduce the larger lacrosse community to the youth lacrosse community and visa versa at the Vail Shootout on Sunday, June 27th
Selection Process
The Sixth Grade All-Stars are chosen by their teammates, not by coaches . 6 th Grade girls who are playing on traveling teams are not excluded from participating. Also, girls who are playing up on 7/8 th grade teams and are in 6 th grade ARE eligible. Coaches are encouraged to meet with their players during the week of April 26 th or before and describe the All Star program, commitment, costs, and talk about excellence, sportsmanship, playing ability, and the honor of being an All Star.
A suggestion would be to have coaches copy this information, hand it to all team members to make sure players are available if chosen. Remind your girls we will need 4 goalies, if they want to vote for their goalie. Then have the teammates vote confidentially by ballot for 4 players to represent their team, plus two alternates . Players chosen ( not alternates ) will be announced and given Award Certificates at the CGLA Festival on May 15 th (6 th silver) and on May 16 th (6 th gold) mid-afternoon at Cornerstone Park.
The total number of girls selected will be divided into four teams by the 6 th grade All Star Coaches when they all practice together at the Training camp on June 14-15-16. The four teams will compete against each other at the Vail/Edwards Shootout on Sunday June 27 th in the afternoon in a round robin format.
Alternates may replace players who cannot participate in the Shootout. All Stars who cannot play in the Shootout are welcome to participate in the training camp, even though an alternate will take their place at the Shootout. Alternates cannot participate in the training camp unless they are taking the place of a teammate who cannot participate in the Shootout game. The cost is the same either way.
Participation Requirements
Participants (must be in 6 th grade) are encouraged to attend all practices at the Training Camp on June 14-15-16 - 5:00 – 7:00 pm and participate in the Vail/Edwards Shootout games on Sunday, June 27th Game times TBD.. (Between the June training camp and Vail, the coaches may call an additional afternoon or weekend practice to be announced later.)
The Shootout
The Vail Shootout held at Freedom Park in Edwards (where the All Stars will participate) will begin on Sunday, June 27 th (in the afternoon-times TBD) with a parent/player meeting. Our All Star games will begin in the afternoon (times TBD) and each of the four teams will play each other once (in a round robin format), for a total of 3 games. Parents are responsible for overnight stays and food (if necessary).
Cost
The cost per girl is $110. The fee covers the cost of officials in Vail, practice and playing fields, the 3 day camp, a commemorative All Star team jersey, and a small stipend for the coaches.
