President
- Marc is stepping down (end of his term)- a heartfelt ‘Thank You' for all of his hard work
- Chris Cosentini is interested in running for the position. She received 3 nominations. She submitted a statement (read to the group) on why she would like to be president.
- Motion and a 2 nd were made in favor of her as our new president. All in favor except for one opposed (Coyotes)
Secretary -now have an opening, any nominations should be forwarded to the board
Past Season Review
- No reported red cards
- Season start date (4/10 for most teams)-worked well for some teams (some parents upset that they shortened spring break plans only to not have a scheduled game on 4/3)
- Positive feedback from the Mandatory Coach Meeting
- Inconsistent reffing.
- One coach had success going to refs before game to verify top 3 rules being called.
- 3 second closely guarded rule-trouble with refs not calling it correctly-needs to be a checkable stick position
- Suggestion to add 1 pass rule
- Suggestion to laminate rule cards to coaches & refs to review before game-color coded by grade (pick top 5 rules to focus on by grade)
- 4 th grade-some fields only had full-size field lined (board needs to address)
- Suggest that refs call the meeting before the game to review the rules & what they're looking for (did happen with some referees)
- Travel-some teams refused to drive up north/one game forfeited because Denver team wouldn't travel to Ft. Collins-maybe ask teams at beginning of season if willing to travel? These issues should have been brought to the league in season as they happened. Possibly shorten season for outlying markets and have them play more double-headers to get in same number of games?
- 4 goal mercy rule-some teams not showing good sportsmanship and running up scores-admins should be looking for big score discrepancies and address with coach-review strategies for teams that are ahead by at least 4 goals (more passing before shooting, shooting with non-dominant hand, attack plays defense, etc.)
- Emails-not everyone is getting CGLA emails
VP Report
- Grossed over $10,000 at Festival, should net more than last year
- Local clubs volunteered less than the far away clubs
- Worked well for one team to get Festival volunteer at beginning of season
Treasurer Report
- Last batch of payments just going out to referees
- Referee pay is on the low side of the pay scale for referees
- In the middle of financial wrap-up
PCA
- 65 FREE online seats still available-passed out information on how to sign up
- 16 girls' coaches attended workshop this spring
Executive Director
- Scheduling software-Demosphere not working well for us-possibly go back to mylacrosseleague.com
- Any team that plays more than the 6 CGLA season games needs to pay the referees for the games over and above the 6.
- Need to maximize Saturday fields to attract and schedule more experienced officials
- Need to formalize schedule change procedures
- Competitive 7 th /8 th grade divisions-possibly start moving towards Full-Checking for 7 th & 8 th grade gold levels (US Lax requires every player has a min. of 3 years experience and the coach must be Level 1 CERTIFIED. The games also need to be officiated by a District Ranked adult official). This will be more expensive for teams.
- DUES increase needed to cover increase in ref fees.
- Question-did more mandatory items (Level 1 clinic/online as well as mandatory coach meeting) translate to fewer problems? YES
- Frank Bailey did a great job on the referee side
- Fall LTP program-Maggie McKee will do on Wednesdays this fall
Other
- Suggestion-limit # of players on a gold team that also play for Team 180 or Summit Lacrosse. General feedback-not feasible (time-consuming to monitor and possibly have to tell some girls they need to play further away from home)
- Suggestion-8 th grade competitive draft teams
